What is a Big Bang?

Big Bangs are long-fic challenges. The idea is to write a complete fic of at least 10,000 words. It's written over several months, so there's no need to hurry or get freaked out!

** Fics that have been already posted - in whole or as a WIP - would not be eligible for the challenge. Fics that you have already finished writing, or have written major chunks for, are also not eligible. **

A Big Bang is not a fic exchange - you're not writing for anyone else, just yourself. And the fun of it! :)

What Kind of Fic is Eligible at bb_shadowhunter

Any kind of fic (slash, het, 3some, 4some, moresome, angst, fluff, smut, gen, adventure/mystery, hurt/comfort, whatever!) that focuses on characters from The Mortal Instruments and/or The Infernal Devices is eligible for bb_shadowhunter.

There are plenty of ways to participate in a Big Bang and have fun!

You can sign up to be a writer.

A writer's goal is to write a complete story of at least 10,000 words by the deadline.

You can sign up to be an artist.

An artist will be assigned to a fic and will produce work(s) of art to accompany the fic (a fic banner, illustrations, etc). Artists can choose from traditional art, banners/graphic design, photography series, videos, and fanmixes (including cover designs).

You can sign up to be a beta reader.

A beta reader will be assigned to an writer and will help them revise and edit their story. 10,000 words is long and writers will need your help and support!

If you have the time, you can sign up to do everything! You're not limited to one of these activities.

February 10, 2011 sign-ups for authors and artists commence. There’ll be a separate sign-up post for each, and this will not be a definitive post. It’s just for us to get an idea of how many people will participate.

February 14, 2011 prompt post will be posted. If you have ideas of plots that could fill the 10,000 words for somebody else, you can drop a prompt there. If you don’t have more ideas and you already have the plot for yourself figured out, you can ignore this post.

February 14 - February 28, 2011 the definitive sign-ups for authors and artists – separately – begin.
IMPORTANT: if you miss this post but still you want to sign up, talk to a mod.

March 5, 2011 general outlines for all fics are due to mods. Betas will be assigned by this date and fic outlines will be sent to artists so they can start illustrating!

March 10, 2011 we will make a post that shows the pairings of author to artist. Feel free to contact the person you're working with! Exchange notes! Ideas! The more an artist has to work with, the better!

April 10, 2011 the writers should e-mail a rough draft of their stories to the artists. This way, the artists have three weeks to read over it and see if there's any scenes in particular they want to illustrate, or just get a better feel for the story overall. Also, the writers will have one month from this point to polish their story, get it beta’d, etc.

May 10, 2011 final stories and art are due. E-mail them to us so we can count them up and see what the final haul is.

May 15, 2011 posting begins. Posting entries to this community is moderated, but only so we can go through and make sure formatting is correct, etc. Your original text will not be changed.
